The Litter Bug – Polluting our Planet

By Patrick Rogers, Aged 13

Second in our series of school children guest bloggers is Patrick Rogers from All Hallows High School, close to Preston in the United Kingdom. After reading Patrick’s blog you get the impression that he is pretty upset with the disregard humans are showing the Earth. All this littering and polluting is taking its toil! It is great to hear such passion from someone so young and I hope he continues his fight for a better planet in the future!

Please feel free to leave comments below, about Patrick’s blog or some of the solutions you think will help prevent litter from polluting our planet.

Hi, I’m 13 years old.

You may think that at this age I wouldn’t care about the stuff on this blog, but I do! In fact, it’s young people that are making the most changes.

One of the most annoying ways of destruction to this planet, in my opinion, is stupidity. I’m not talking big nuclear power plants but the little things. Littering, not eating that fruit you got in your lunch box, that sort of stuff. Now I’m not saying everyone’s stupid, but we’ve almost all done one of these things and when you think about it, it is stupid. Next time, why not ask if anyone else wants it, give it to the kid with no lunch money or eat it yourself, it won’t kill you! Quite the opposite in fact.

Litter Bug

As for littering, I saw a very interesting video the other day. It was taken on a car camera in America. Someone threw some rubbish out of their window, it looked like a McDonald’s box and a half finished shake. It was just as they stopped at the red lights. Then a man from the car on the right got out and threw the rubbish back through the car window! There was a lot of shouting from the litter bug (let’s just say they are too explicit for this blog!). The point of the story is though, you wouldn’t like it if the litter was thrown at you! With a half full banana milkshake dripping on you and you wouldn’t expect it either, so why do it to the earth?

Poor Old Earth

I mean poor old earth, this must happen t them millions of times a day! Obviously, the earth itself is an inanimate object but everything that lives here isn’t. So next time, look after earth, wait until you get home, or find a bin, or even be creative! Just search what you can do with plastic bottles, takeaway boxes, even toilet roll tubes and you’ll be surprised.

Anyway, that’s all folks, I hope my rant makes some sense!
